Ms. Rekha Sharma

Ms. Rekha Sharma is the Honorable Chairperson of National Commission for Women, India. She commenced her office as the Chairperson on September 29, 2017. Before being involved with the Commission, she was actively associated with civil society organizations in different aptitude. The issues on women’s rights and liberty have been her major work area in which her contribution is appreciated. She has been championing on overcoming the diverse causes of vulnerability towards women. Prior to joining the Commission, she was also a Member of the District Consumer & Redressal Forum in the Government of Haryana. In addition, under her guidance a “Digital Shakti Campaign” has been launched by National Commission for Women in collaboration with Facebook and Cyber Peace Foundation to train around 60,000 women in Indian universities on online safety across major cities in India. She has also led some major laws review undertaken by the Commission like Guardianship Rights for Mothers, Property Rights of Women and other laws related to Sexual Harassment of Women at the workplace.
